The FDA has warned consumers about possible dangers to pets associated with jerky treats containing duck, chicken and sweet potatoes that were manufactured in China; however, Ohio State University veterinarian Valerie Parker urges owners to avoid all pet jerky treats until the FDA can determine the source of the illnesses and deaths among pets that have ingested the treats. Dr. Parker, who recently treated a toy poodle whose illness she believes was linked to duck jerky treats, said fresh fruits such as melons and apples or vegetables including green beans and carrots make safe, healthy pet treats. The FDA is asking owners of dogs with problems that might be connected to jerky treats to fill out a report online. If you have fed any of these treats and your pet is showing any abnormal sighs please let us know as soon as possible.
